Modem & Internet Coax Line Installation
Your cable modem's location directly affects your WiFi coverage. If your modem is tucked in a corner, closet, or basement, WiFi performance throughout your home likely suffers. TV Solutions runs a new coaxial cable line to a more optimal location — typically a central room — so you can relocate your modem and router for dramatically improved WiFi coverage. This simple infrastructure change often eliminates the need for WiFi extenders or mesh systems entirely.
Why Modem Location Matters
Your cable modem converts the coaxial signal from your internet provider into an ethernet signal your router broadcasts as WiFi. If the modem and router sit in a far corner of the house, WiFi has to travel through multiple walls, floors, and ceilings to reach distant rooms — resulting in weak signal, slow speeds, and dead zones. Moving the modem to a central location means WiFi reaches every room with more equal signal strength. The difference is often dramatic — dead zones disappear and speeds increase throughout the house.
New Coax Run to a Central Location
We run a new RG6 coaxial cable from your cable provider's entry point (or existing distribution splitter) to the room where you want your modem. The cable is fished through finished walls, ceilings, attic space, or crawlspaces with no visible surface-mounted cables. We install a coaxial wall plate at the new location and test the signal to ensure it meets the minimum level required by your internet service provider for reliable broadband performance.
Modem & Router Setup
After installing the new coax outlet, we reconnect your cable modem at the new location, verify internet connectivity, and reposition your router. If you have a separate router and modem, we ensure both are placed optimally and connected correctly. If you use a combination modem/router (gateway) from your ISP, we relocate the unit and verify all WiFi and wired connections are working. We also reconfigure any devices that need to reconnect to the WiFi network.
Wired Internet & Hardline Connection
While relocating your modem, it is an ideal time to add ethernet drops to nearby rooms for wired internet connections. Hardwired devices like desktop computers, gaming consoles, smart TVs, and home office equipment perform best on a direct wired connection rather than WiFi. We can add ethernet ports in the same visit for a complete networking upgrade.
