Cat5, Cat5e & Cat6 Ethernet Cable Installation
Whether you need a single ethernet run to your home office or a whole-home network with cable to every room, TV Solutions installs Cat5e and Cat6 ethernet cable through finished walls, ceilings, and crawlspaces. We handle everything from planning the most efficient cable route to terminating each run with professional wall plates and testing for gigabit-speed performance. Running ethernet cable through your house has never been easier.
Cat5e vs Cat6 — Which Should You Choose?
Both Cat5e and Cat6 support gigabit ethernet (1 Gbps), which is more than sufficient for today's home internet speeds. Cat6 cable is thicker, has tighter winding, and supports 10-gigabit speeds over distances up to 55 meters — making it a better choice for future-proofing your network. Cat6 also offers better resistance to crosstalk and electromagnetic interference. For new installations, we recommend Cat6 for the modest price difference and significant performance headroom. If you are extending an existing Cat5 or Cat5e network, matching the existing cable type keeps your network consistent.
Running Ethernet Cable Through Your House
Routing ethernet through a finished home involves fishing cable through wall cavities, navigating around insulation and fire blocks, crossing ceiling joists in attic spaces, and sometimes running through crawlspaces or basement ceilings. Experienced technicians plan each cable run to minimize the number of wall penetrations and avoid areas with electrical wiring or plumbing. Every cable run is secured with cable staples or J-hooks at appropriate intervals to prevent sagging and maintain bend radius specifications.
Whole-Home Network Wiring
For homeowners who want ethernet in every room, we design and install whole-home network wiring packages. Each room gets a dedicated cable run back to a central location — typically near your router, switch, or structured media panel. A centralized star topology gives you the fastest and most reliable network because every connection has its own dedicated cable rather than sharing bandwidth. We can run 4, 8, 12, or more drops in a single installation, with volume pricing that makes whole-home wiring surprisingly affordable.
Termination & Testing
Every cable run is terminated with professional-grade RJ45 connectors at both ends — typically a keystone wall plate at the room end and a patch panel or keystone jack at the central location. We use T568B wiring standard for consistent, industry-standard termination. Every run is tested with a cable certifier to verify continuity, correct pin wiring, and rated speed. Cables are labeled at both ends for easy identification.
