TV Mount Buying Guide: What We Recommend

Not sure which mount to get? Here are the ones we use and recommend, organized by price and mount type.

Quick Guide

Not sure which mount to get? Here is a quick breakdown:

Tilt — Sits close to the wall, angles down. Great above a fireplace or when the TV is slightly above eye level. Full Motion — Extends on an arm, swivels and tilts in any direction. Best for open rooms or corner setups. Flat — Sits flush against the wall with no movement. Cleanest look, lowest price.

Note: The size ranges below are based on our experience, not the manufacturer's rating. Prices may vary slightly by retailer.

Budget Mounts (ONN)

Reliable mounts at great prices. Available at Walmart.

Tilt ONN Tilt Low-profile design that sits close to the wall and tilts down only. Works well for TVs up to 86 inches. Since there is no side-to-side angle, make sure the mount is centered on your seating area for the best viewing experience. 19"–50" $21.64 50"–86" $24.48

Full Motion ONN Full Motion Swivels and tilts on an extending arm, letting you adjust the viewing angle from different spots in the room. Best suited for TVs up to 65 inches — larger TVs can feel stiff on this mount and may not hold position as well over time. 19"–49" $31.83 50"–65" $52.64

Flat ONN Flat The most affordable option available. Sits completely flat against the wall with zero adjustability once installed. Keep in mind that the TV has to come off the mount any time you need to access the cables behind it, which can be inconvenient for setup changes. 17"–32" $10.42 32"–80" $28.38

Premium Mounts (Sanus)

Better build quality, smoother adjustments, and easier cable access. Available at Best Buy, Walmart, Costco, Target, Lowes, and Amazon.

Tilt Sanus Extended Tilt (4D) Our #1 Pick The mount we install most. Tilts down and angles side to side, giving you way more flexibility than a standard tilt mount. It extends from the wall for easy cable access, then pushes back flush when you are done. Best for TVs 65 inches and up — this is the one we recommend for most living rooms. 32"–42" $63.00 42"–90" $199.99

Full Motion Sanus Full Motion (VLF728) Not the cheapest option, but hands down the best full motion mount for large TVs 66 inches and up. Extends smoothly, swivels without resistance, and holds its position over time. If you need full motion capability on a big TV, this is the one we trust and install regularly. 66"–90" $429.99

Flat Sanus Low-Profile Flat Sits just half an inch from the wall, giving it a sleek built-in look. Includes a lateral shift feature that lets you slide the TV left or right after installation for perfect centering on the wall, without removing or re-drilling anything. 32"–55" $104.99 55"–80" $134.99

Frequently Asked Questions

Which mount do you recommend the most?

The Sanus Extended Tilt (4D). It tilts down and angles side to side, extends for cable access, and works with TVs from 42 to 90 inches. We install more of these than any other mount.

Can I use any mount with my TV?

Not any mount. It needs to match your TV's VESA pattern and support its weight. Check your TV's specs for the VESA size (like 400x400) and weight before buying.

Tilt or full motion — which is better?

Full motion is best if you watch from different spots in the room. Tilt works great when the TV faces one seating area. For 65" and larger, we recommend the Sanus 4D — it gives you tilt plus side-to-side angle.

Will you install a mount I already bought?

Yes. Just make sure it is compatible with your TV size and VESA pattern, and we will handle the rest.

Where can I buy these mounts?

ONN mounts are at Walmart. Sanus mounts are at Best Buy, Walmart, Costco, Target, Lowes, and Amazon. Direct links are included above.
