Fireplace TV Installation in Highlands Ranch

A detailed look at a fireplace TV installation in Highlands Ranch featuring a tilting mount, heat management, and professional cord concealment for a clean, safe result.

Above-Fireplace Mounting in a Highlands Ranch Home

Highlands Ranch is full of beautifully built homes with stone and brick fireplaces that serve as the natural focal point of the living room. That makes the wall above the fireplace the most popular spot for a TV in many of these homes. But mounting above a fireplace is not the same as mounting on a standard drywall wall. This project involved a homeowner in the Westridge neighborhood of Highlands Ranch with a gas fireplace and a stone surround that extended about 18 inches above the mantel. The homeowner wanted a 65-inch LG OLED mounted above the mantel, centered on the stone, with no visible cables. The challenge was threefold: the stone surface required masonry anchors, the TV needed to be positioned far enough above the firebox to avoid heat damage, and the cables had to be routed through the stone without disrupting its appearance.

Heat Management and Mount Selection

Heat is the biggest concern with any above-fireplace TV installation. Electronics and sustained heat do not mix well. For gas fireplaces, the heat rises directly above the firebox, and without proper clearance, it can shorten the lifespan of your TV or cause performance issues. The general rule is a minimum of 6 to 12 inches of clearance between the top of the mantel and the bottom edge of the TV. In this Highlands Ranch project, the mantel was 54 inches from the floor, and the TV was mounted with its bottom edge at 62 inches, giving a comfortable 8 inches of clearance. A tilting mount was used to angle the screen downward by about 10 degrees, which compensates for the elevated viewing position and reduces neck strain when watching from the couch. The tilt also helps with glare from the large windows common in Highlands Ranch living rooms.

Stone Wall Drilling and Cable Routing

Mounting into stone requires a rotary hammer drill and masonry sleeve anchors rather than standard wood screws or drywall anchors. Your technician drilled pilot holes into the mortar joints between the stones, which provides a strong anchor point without risking a crack through the face of a stone. Four sleeve anchors secured the mounting bracket, each rated for well over the weight of the TV and bracket combined. For cable routing, a channel was carefully drilled through the stone at a downward angle behind the TV, exiting near the baseboard where an outlet was already located. A UL-listed power bridge handled the electrical connection, and HDMI ran through the same channel in a low-voltage rated conduit. The finished result shows nothing but the TV on the wall, with every cable hidden inside the stone.

The Finished Result and Highlands Ranch Service

The homeowner was thrilled with the result. The LG OLED sits perfectly above the fireplace, tilted just enough for comfortable viewing, with zero visible wires against the stone. The entire installation took about two hours, including the masonry drilling and cable routing.
